The word Wachesaw comes from the Waccamaw Indians, who used inhabit what is now Myrtle Beach’s South Strand, and means “happy hunting ground.” While the Waccamaw Indians were hunting to survive, the word they applied to the land is as apt today as it was in the 18th century.
