Your Guide to an Affordable Golf Package During Troubled Times

The economy is not what it was a few months ago, but golfers still have to have their golf. It is a stress reliever. It’s a release from the real world. It’s just a good time. Just because the economy is in troubled times, doesn't mean that you can’t get a money saving golf package. Myrtle Beach has plenty of savings to pass on to you. Here are some tips on apprehending that affordable golf package.

First, take note of any accommodation specials. Right now in Myrtle Beach, there are accommodations like River Oaks Villas, Sandpiper Bay Villas, Barefoot Golf Villas, Barefoot Yacht Club Villas, World Tour Villas and True Blue Villas that offer a buy two nights and get a third night free. Or, buy four nights, get a fifth night free. These free nights save you quite a bit.

Second, (and there are a couple ways to do this), find the lower priced golf courses. Just because they don’t have the $150 price tag, doesn't mean that that course is not worth playing. There are several courses in Myrtle Beach that are great buys. Carolina National golf course, right now, thru 01/21/09, is $45 (golf only) or $37 on a stay and play package. This is a great deal either way. Woodland Valley is only $29 from now until 01/21/09. Another good deal. Those courses are out there, so ask your golf director about these money savers. Another way to save some cash is to book multi-play rounds. Multi-play refers to courses that are owned or operated by the same company, or courses that have a partnership between one another. The more of their courses you play, the better discount you can get. The best one of these is a 5 round, Myrtle Beach National package. This is a great way to get more expensive courses (like King’s North and Willbrook) at the price of most of the cheaper courses. There are 2-plays, 3 plays, 4, 5, 6, and 7 plays, and so on. Again, ask your golf director what multi-play discounts are available. Another way to save on golf courses is to book your tee time(s) on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Or try to book your tee times before 8am or after 12pm. Most courses have rates available for these days and times.

Third, bring your buddies. Try to share bedrooms. A foursome in a 2 bedroom condo is a lot cheaper per person than just a twosome in a 2 bedroom. A group of five guys in a 2 bedroom is cheaper per person than just four. In this case, one person would be on the couch, but if it saves the entire group some green, it’s worth it. Seven golfers in a 3 bedroom is cheaper than just six. And so on. Another way to save is to get to 20 golfers. This would entail that the group leader gets a free package. Some group leaders will take those savings and divide them amongst the whole group. Any little bit helps.

Lastly, plan your trip around the peak season dates. We know, sometimes you can’t help it, but it never hurts to try to save a few bucks. Peak season dates in Myrtle Beach are from 03/12/09 to 04/26/09 and 10/01/09 to 10/25/09. These are typically the highest rates of the year for golf courses as well as some accommodations. Golf in Myrtle Beach is at its cheapest during the winter and summer months. Most accommodations, other than oceanfront are cheaper during the summer, too. Also look for brand new accommodations like Tilghman Beach and Golf Resort and Market Common. These places are brand new and are looking to get the word out about their property. And the best way for them to do that, is to fill the place up at discounted rates.

There are several ways to cut corners, you just have to know what to be aware of and what to ask about. Be sure to ask your golf director about anything and everything that can save you some money.
