Myrtle Beach Golf News and Reviews -

Road Trip: Myrtle Beach – The Cast

The Golf Channel has begun to air their brand new show, Road Trip: Myrtle Beach. This truly is a one of a kind show that focuses mainly on some of the best golf courses in the golf capital of the world. Not a bad idea, huh? Seeing that Myrtle Beach is the most traveled to location in the world for golf, why not make a show that comprises several of the best courses in the area? That’s exactly what they did. It airs on Tuesdays at 7:30.
The cast is none too familiar with Myrtle Beach, residing from South Carolina, along with neighboring North Carolina and Georgia. A couple of them are seasoned and accomplished professional players as the other two are probably just like you and I (just out to have fun!). The cast is as follows...

Charlie Rymer:
Most of you know Charlie as a sports commentator for ESPN, hitting up several PGA tournaments per year. What you might not know is that he is from Fort Mill, SC and was a two-time All-American for Georgia Tech. Then, he received his Tour Card and was on the Tour for nearly ten years. He also won the 1985 USGA Amateur Championship. (Yes, Tiger has that one under his belt, too). We’d like to think he can still play with those credentials!

Josh Kelly:
Born in Augusta, GA in 1980, Josh is working his way into stardom. Not golf stardom like Tiger or Phil, but with the A-listers from Hollywood. He attended Ole Miss and happened to release a CD while still in college. He signed with a label and before you knew it, he was married to Grey’s Anatomy star Katherine Heigl! He has toured with the likes of Third Eye Blind and Counting Crows. We’ll see if he can play golf the way he plays a guitar...

Perry Swensen:
Perry is a native of Charlotte, NC and is on her way to joining the likes of Paula Creamer and Morgan Pressel on the LPGA Tour. She graduated from the University of Texas where she placed 2nd in both the 2004 and 2005 Big 12 Championship tournaments. Currently, Perry is a member of the Duramed Futures Tour (the subsidiary of the LPGA), and has been since 2005. Maybe she’ll give Charlie a run for his money! We’ll see...

Mark Bryan:
South Carolinians are very familiar with this name. Mark is one of the founding members, and lead guitar player for the multi-platinum band, Hootie and the Blowfish who just happen to be from South Carolina. Mark has made his contribution to the band that has sold over 20 million records world wide and “Cracked Rear View” is the #12 best selling album of all time! Eat your heart out, George Michael. If you are ever in Myrtle Beach and you know that Hootie is in town, be sure to purchase tickets well in advance, because Mark and the guys put on one helluva show. We’ve seen the music videos with these guys on the course, hopefully Mark has improved a few strokes...

As far as casting goes for Road Trip: Myrtle Beach, it’s pretty solid. A couple celebrities paired with a couple pros? What might The Golf Channel have in store for us? We’re sure there will be plenty of laughs, tips and ideas for your next Myrtle Beach Golf Trip. If you are making the trip this spring, be sure to tune in on Tuesdays at 7:30 because one of your courses may be the feature course of the week.
