Myrtle Beach: more then just golf
(Novenber, 13 2007) Myrtle
Beach is a very diverse city when talking about golf. There are about a
hundred courses, millions of golfers and a whole lot of strokes. What happens
when all of those golfers run out of holes (or daylight for all you overachievers)
on their Myrtle Beach golf package? There are restaurants, bars, adult establishments,
dance clubs, and the list goes on and on. You will find that Myrtle Beach
is very diverse in other ways as well.
Let’s
start with restaurants. There are over 1,400 restaurants in the Myrtle Beach
area. Golfers will always find somewhere to grab a bite to eat. Given, a lot
of those are chain restaurants golfers can find in their hometown, but there
are a bunch of local places that make a Myrtle Beach golf package feel like
a true vacation. The local flavor is fresh, southern and friendly. If you can’t
decide what or where to eat, there are numerous places at Broadway at the Beach
or at Barefoot Landing.
Now to the
bars. Most golfers like to have a few beers on the course. Beer and golf kinda
go hand in hand. But all drinks are obviously not served strictly on the golf
course by a pretty little thing in college named Natalie, Teresa, Amanda, hold
on. I got carried away. Back to the bars. There are numerous bars golfers can
visit after the sun goes down. One of the most popular locations is Broadway
at the Beach. The section that golfers enjoy is “Celebrity Square”.
You will find Irish pubs, sports bars, karaoke bars, oyster bars, and more
bars. The alcohol flows as free as your golf swing in this particular place.
There are also dance clubs in “Celebrity Square” for all you bachelors
out there. If you are here in the fall, and want to check out a football game,
Overtime Sports Café has any game you want. Or, in the spring, during
March Madness, Overtime has those games as well. Then, there are the little
local places that have a more relaxed feel to them. Don’t hesitate to
ask a Myrtle Beach resident what their favorite watering hole is. These places
are where you will find some of the best advice as to what Myrtle Beach has
to offer, be it golf, directions, weather, nightlife, etc. After all, most
of those people are “locals”.
A lot of
golfers (guys check over your shoulder for this paragraph) like the adult establishments.
There are several of these around Myrtle Beach. You should choose these wisely.
Some of them are kinda sketchy. Some are nice. Be wary of what you will be
paying at the door. Sometimes it is $20 or more just to get inside and then
$5 a beer. That gets expensive before you sit down. When you check in at your
accommodations, your Golf Director will have given you enough free passes to
these places to last your stay. Take advantage of these passes! Also, make
sure you know if the particular joint is BYOB or not. You might be surprised.
It is also a good idea to take a cab to these places as police know what golfers
like to do after the sun goes down. Okay, paragraph over.
Now that
we’ve covered the eating and drinking, what else is there? Myrtle Beach
is also a popular place for concerts. You might be able to catch a band like
Motley Crue (believe it or not), Hootie and the Blowfish, or even somebody
like Kenny Rogers or Wayne Newton. Do some research on House of Blues (Myrtle
Beach) and Alabama Theatre. These places are very popular and tend to sell
out for big concerts, so, if this is something you and the guys might like,
you probably want to purchase tickets online. There are also other shows around
town at places like Carolina Opry (“ONE, The Show”), Dixie Stampede,
or Legends just to name a few.
Myrtle Beach
also has an aquarium, IMAX Theater, and movie theaters. Soon, there will be
a theme park. The Hard Rock Theme Park is scheduled to open in the next few
months, so if the kids are coming along, this may be something to check out.
Also, if you and the guys did not get your bets settled on the course, putt-putt
places are usually open pretty late.
Diversity.
There is always something to do in Myrtle Beach other than golf. Just look
at these things as bonuses. After all, you are coming to Myrtle Beach to play
golf, aren’t you?
