Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
(September, 13 2007)Myrtle Beach is definitely a golfer’s
paradise, but golf is not the only thing here. If you are plan a golf
trip, and your non-golfing family wants to come along, there are plenty
of other things in Myrtle Beach for them to do while your are on the
links. This has been a resort town for years and years. There
is anything and everything from water parks to malls. They will surely
find something…
Myrtle Beach
is known for two major things. One, obviously is golf and the other is in the
name: the beach! In between all of the golf courses and beaches, are literally
hundreds of things to do like sightseeing, shopping, dining, dancing and more.
Myrtle Beach
has a rich history going back to the 40’s when Americans started the typical
vacation. Not much was here then, but over time there has been a demand for golf
and beach vacations. There are several historic sites to visit along with modern
attractions like amusement parks and Broadway-like productions. Just because
you are here for the golf doesn’t mean that your family has to sit at the
hotel and be bored out of their mind all day. They will definitely find something
to do.
Myrtle Beach
has a plethora of live entertainment. Some of the shows in town include the Alabama
Theater, the Carolina Opry, Medieval Times, and Dixie Stampede. The Palace Theater
host several different things throughout the year. The 12 Irish Tenors, Jerry
Seinfeld and Larry the Cable Guy have been known to put on shows there along
with a great show called “Le Grande Cirque”. The theater is even
set to host a Presidential debate in November 2007. As far as concerts go, there
is always something going on at the House of Blues. They have had bands such
as Motley Crue, Hootie and the Blowfish and Chairmen of the Board.
In addition
to all of the golf, Myrtle Beach has about 60 miles of beaches. The beach recreations
include not only tanning and swimming, but boating, fishing, parasailing, and
kayaking. Some folks will even get out on the Intracoastal Waterway for a day.
If you come to Myrtle Beach in the summer, make sure to get your tee time in
the morning so you have time to go to the beach in the afternoon with the family.
As far as
dining goes, Myrtle Beach boasts over 1,600 restaurants. From fresh fish, to
great steaks, to fondue, you are sure to find any cuisine that you wish. (Some
of the local places are the best!) For you, the golfer, there are many (and I
mean many) breakfast places to catch on your way to the course.
Shopping is
definitely a pastime for the non-golfing family. There is Coastal Grand Mall,
which is the largest mall in South Carolina. There is Broadway at the Beach,
where there are several hundred shops along with restaurants, movie theaters
and even an aquarium. There is also Barefoot Landing which is not far from Colonial
Mall. Barefoot Landing has attractions like Alabama Theater, House of Blues,
Alligator Adventure, restaurants and about a hundred shops.
There is no
worry finding something to do at night. The nightlife in Myrtle Beach is something
else. Broadway at the Beach has a section called “Celebrity Square” which
is nothing but bars. There are several sports bars around town, too. If you are
not in the bar scene, you can always find a quiet place to sit, have a drink
and just relax.
If you want
to play the golf, and your family doesn’t, Myrtle Beach has plenty to offer
everyone. This South Carolina resort town is famous for golf, but soon will be
famous for a whole lot more. Don’t be afraid to bring the family because
everyone will have a blast!
