Caledonia is a perennial favorite for groups that make many trips to Myrtle Beach. When you turn into the entrance lined with huge live oaks that are hundreds of years old, you know you are in for a very special day of golf. It is arguably the best course in town and is ranked among the “Top 100 Courses You Can Play”. Opened in 1995, Caledonia was built on an old rice plantation and designed by Mike Strantz who also designed Tobacco Road in Pinehurst.

This course is amazing. Every hole is different and distinct. You never feel like you “just played that hole”. It is always in great condition and when they perform maintenance, the course is closed for at least a week to let it heal. There should not be any condition issues here. Caledonia comes at a price, though. It is one of the most expensive in Myrtle Beach, and it can be because it is that good. The rates are at their cheapest in the summer and winter.

There are about a dozen other courses nearby, including True Blue, which is Caledonia’s sister course, also designed by Strantz. If you are looking to play another round in the afternoon, there are plenty of courses to choose from. Some, not all, of these courses have afternoon rates, which are typically cheaper than morning rates, so try to play Caledonia in the morning if you want two rounds ina a day. Book tee times several months in advance! This is one of the most popular courses in Myrtle Beach and tee times go ridiculously fast.
